While you are at Starbelly Jam this year, take some time to stroll through our Hand Crafted Village Vendor area where we feature artisans who design and produce their own work. You never know what treasures you will find there but they could range from beautiful, locally designed clothing and jewelry – to hula hoops, spinning toys, feathery eyelashes, and mischief-inspiring masks – to luscious, natural body products – to…who knows!
When you purchase from a Hand Crafted Village Vendor, you are saying YES to small local business, creativity, and people making a living through art…a value we believe is at the heart of what makes the Kootenays so special.
This year we are continuing to work towards ZERO waste from our craft vendor area, which means we aim to make all of our craft vendor packaging either recyclable or compostable in our efficient Bokashi composting system. Of course, we welcome and encourage everyone to bring your own personal cloth shopping bags or baskets to carry your treasures home in. Let’s make 2012 the greenest year ever for SBJ!
We are also introducing a new challenge for our craft vendors to adopt the HAND CRAFTED and LOFT system, encouraging vendors to sell items that feature Hand Crafted, Locally produced, Organic or Fair Trade components.
HC = Hand Crafted
L = LOCAL
O = ORGANIC
FT = FAIR TRADE
