Come one, come all on Sunday, Apr. 29 to the rustic and lovely Gray Creek Hall to celebrate SPRING CARNAVAL with the East Shore’s own community samba band, Samba Lago Profundo (S.L.a.P.).
S.L.a.P. has been working tirelessly on some new material just for this event and are looking forward to dazzling you with a mellow set to accompany a Brazilian inspired dinner (yes, there will be meat and veggie options) and a full-blown outdoors samba parade after dinner, complete with all the feathers, sequins, and glittering fabulousness deserving of a Carnaval parade. DJ Damaru will finish off the evening back in the hall for more dancing and fun. PLEASE DRESS IN YOUR CARNAVAL BEST! (Outrageous is just right.) 🙂
Carnaval is the most famous holiday in Brazil and has become an event of huge proportions. Rio de Janeiro’s carnival alone drew 4.9 million people in 2011, with 400,000 being foreigners. Rhythm, participation, and costumes vary from one region of Brazil to another. In the southeastern cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, huge organized parades are led by samba schools. Those official parades are meant to be watched by the public, while minor parades (“blocos”) allowing public participation can be found in other cities.
This is a kid friendly event. All proceeds go towards this year’s Starbelly Jam workshop program.
Tickets are $30 for dinner & dance, $10 to drop in after dinner. Tickets are available online & at Riondel Market, Crawford Bay Store, and The Lakeview (starting Apr.15). Special children’s prices can be negotiated at the door, depending on the age of your child…we’ll make it work for everyone.
